In a poem, Alexander Pope once wrote, “For fools rush in where angels fear to tread.” This poetic expression of foolish spontaneity has been quoted by everyone from Elvis Presley to Captain James T. Kirk.

Likewise, Jesus says it is foolish to rush in before first contemplating the cost. Whether it’s building a tower, going to war, or becoming a disciple, you must first calculate the cost.
