HOMECOMING: SEPTEMBER 23th

All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it.

-Hebrews 11:13 (NLT)

One hundred and twenty-five years ago, a handful of men and women, both passionate for our community as well as God, embarked on a mission. They engaged their imaginations and partnered with God to envision a church – what we now know as Dortches Baptist Church. Our church has continued to grow into that vision, and has extended way beyond those original visionaries. They believed in the promise of what God could do in our community; and while they knew they would not live long enough to see what we have become today, they saw it and welcomed it from a distance.

We invite you to join us for a “Coming Home Celebration” as we gather in remembrance of our 125th Anniversary Homecoming service at 11:00 A.M. on Sunday, September 23, 2018. Rev. Johnson Gupton will be bring our message during worship. Rev. Gupton was licensed to preach at Dortches Baptist Church – then called Stony Creek Baptist Church – on November 14, 1954, while attending Campbell College to prepare himself for ministry. It is a great privilege to have him visiting with us so many years after our church helped nurture his call.

Following worship, we will gather for a time of food and fellowship in our Family Life Center. Enjoy some local favorites and signature dishes, as we have fellowship around the table.  Catch up and share stories with members and friends that you haven’t seen in a while. Even if you can’t stay for the meal, we encourage you to take the time to come and look around. The decorations in the Family Life Center will feature old photographs and memorabilia through the years to help you reminisce.

We would love to have you in attendance to add to this time of fellowship and renewal. For the past year, our church has been growing in spirit and in strength. We are excited to be gaining younger members, while continuing to honor those who have been in church for much of their life. We hope to have you join in this momentum as we move both forward and closer together.  Help us imagine where we will be in the next 125 years.
